
Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery Begins Fuel Production, Targets Self-Sufficiency
The Dangote Refinery in Lekki, Nigeria, has officially commenced operations, producing refined fuels including diesel and petrol for local consumption. Aliko Dangote, the company’s chairman, hailed the milestone as a game-changer for Nigeria’s energy sector. “With this refinery, we are positioned to meet all of Nigeria’s fuel needs and become a net exporter to neighboring countries,” Dangote announced. The $19 billion facility is expected to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day and reduce fuel import dependency that has strained Nigeria’s economy for decades. Government officials and energy experts believe the refinery will stabilize fuel prices, support forex reserves, and create thousands of jobs.

Boeing Launches Its African Office in Addis Ababa
Boeing Company has officially inaugurated its new African office in Addis Ababa, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics announced. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Ethiopia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Alemu Sime, emphasized that this move represents a significant milestone in the company's global expansion strategy. "The opening of Boeing's African office here in Addis Ababa is a significant step towards realizing our global vision," the minister stated. According to the information obtained from the ministry, the inauguration was attended by prominent figures including Kuljit Gatta, President of Boeing for the Middle East, Turkey, Africa, and Central Asia; Ervin Masinga, the U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia; Getachew Mengistu, Director General of the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority; and Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, alongside other senior executives.

Ethiopia, UAE Agree to Collaborate on Palm Production Development
Minister of Agriculture, Girma Amente, the Secretary General of Khalfa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation of the United Arab Emirates, Abdelouahhab Zaid, discussed on the ways of working together on palm production. Ethiopia is set to host the inaugural International Date Palm Festival this year, following a collaborative agreement signed between the Ministry of Agriculture of Ethiopia and the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation from the UAE. Ethiopian agriculture minister Girma Amente has expressed readiness to collaborate with partner organizations for organizing future festivals focused on palm productions. The festival will feature discussions on improved date palm varieties and technologies, with participation from farmers, producers, professionals, researchers and private sectors across various countries focusing on practical solutions. According to Ministry of Agriculture, Ethiopia possesses 500,000 hectares of land suitable for palm cultivation, with only about 6,000 hectares currently utilized. Afar, Somali, Gambela, Benishangul-Gumuz, Guji, and Borena (Oromia), regions As well as Dire-Dawa administration of Ethiopia are identified as potential areas for palm productions. Kenya Launches First Green Industrial Park in Naivasha
Kenya has officially launched its first Green Industrial Park in Naivasha, a milestone development expected to attract environmentally sustainable industries and create over 20,000 jobs. President William Ruto stated that the initiative aligns with Kenya’s vision of green growth, low-carbon development, and industrial transformation. “The Naivasha Green Industrial Park will serve as a model for sustainable development and climate-resilient manufacturing in Africa,” the president said during the ceremony. South Africa’s MTN Expands Mobile Money Services into West Africa
Telecom giant MTN Group has expanded its mobile money services, MoMo, into Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire, marking a significant step in its fintech strategy across West Africa. The new rollouts are part of MTN’s broader goal to double its active MoMo users by 2026. CEO Ralph Mupita said the company is committed to deepening financial inclusion across underserved regions. “Mobile money is a cornerstone of Africa’s digital economy, and our expansion into these two countries reinforces our mission to connect the unbanked population to financial services,” Mupita noted.
